Don't forget to service the rear suspension lower linkage bearings

SOLVED- I changed the bit of wood to a much thinner peice and the pins just pulled out nice and easy! The bearing pins were pretty dirty with not much grease in them.

One set has come out though, so I now need to figure out how to reassemble the bearings inside the housing, which is my next puzzle 😶

I've never used a wedge as such. I simply use a crowbar under the tyre to lift it. Til the pressure comes off the bolts.

I have a centre stand but your set up is giving you the same results. Oh, and mind the bearings don't fall apart…

I've never replaced the nuts, it's not like they are 'stretch nuts'. A little loctite does the job.

I ended up removing all the bearings from all 4 units.  Once I did one it really wasn't that bad, and actually better as I could properly clean and dry them aswell as the barrel itself all before putting on fresh grease and reassembling. Once a layer of grease is on the inside of the barrel then the pins just stick back on really easy.

And now you can relax, sure in the knowledge that your back end won't seize up and send you flying down lane 3 of the M4 like the very first biker this happened to way back in the day. Luckily he was unhurt and BMW eventually paid out on new bike and kit.
