The Wonderful Clutch.......l
« on: February 24, 2019, 04:44:41 pm »
Hey Chaps,

Getting on with my clutch caught it just in the nick of time, friction material had just disappeared luckily there was no damage to the face.

So into work tomorrow machine drainage slots in the face drill a new oil feed hole for the first friction and drill a new oil feed hole in the aly bung since mine is one of the originals....

I have just ordered a Barnett clutch pack for my 1200, 47K so not too bad for a bike with that sort of power

I must take a look at my clutch plates.

Mine has 23k on it which from what I've read is above average. Apparently its really common due to a design fault, and mine had the stereo type symptoms I've heard described from everyone else.
To get 47k is pretty dam impressive so be honest.

And a question for everyone reading:-
I'm tempted to remove the ally plug on the gear box shaft all together I know to much oil can cause problems with the oil puddling in the spring plate recess and thus clutch drag but I'm going to modify the basket like the later models by deepening the clutch spanner slots to allow the excess oil to escape.
Has anyone else done this results potential problems ?

Of all the faults that mine had and it had lots, the clutch was never one of them. I bought it at 18k and sold it at 42k and the clutch never squealed, slipped, rattled or juddered.

Mind you, it didn't get much use on up changes and after TomL 'discovered' that the oil feed only worked with the lever pulled in I did use to pull it in at lights. I guess mine was a Friday bike with a Monday clutch  8)

I too had no clutch issues with any of my K bikes despite some pretty hefty mileages:

K1200S - 56k
K1300S - 54k
K1300S - 48k
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

mine doesnt rattle, judder, squeal or slip... it just doesn't disengage properly anymore making neutral elusive to find, and considering I was told some years ago that it needed changing due to the colour of the oil, I figure I haven't done too badly out of it  ;D

Stripped my clutch down today and it all looks good in there.

Not joking Brian. Had a good blast yesterday to meet the Facebook group up at Caffeine and Machine, and thought that at 33K, it would be a good time to take a peak at the clutch plates before the coming season.

Ordered a new rear tyre as well today. Pirelli Angel GT A £114.

Thought i'd put this on just to show the condition of all the other friction plates.
As you can see it looks fine as do all the rest.

Alltyres365.co.uk.

They were at least £20 cheaper than the others, when I looked.
