Broken radiator give away. Anyone interested?
« on: July 17, 2019, 11:11:31 am »
Hello all:

I got hit on the left side some time ago, and I got my replacement radiator fitted in. Is anyone interested in a broken radiator? This is for a R bike with 30k miles. Before the accident the radiator was in a good state. Now it is bent on the top left side, and has a very large crack (vertical) on the right side.

I am giving it away. You'll have to collect it from Oxford.

Brian , might be useful. I have to buy a vacuum filling kit first.

I'm still contemplating making a new fan mount  to get rid of the restriction caused by the original. I stripped mine out to swill the rad out before a trip to Scotland for the BSB and there was a lot of compacted road dust around the bottom of the matrix.
The wand I made works great but you can't get to the back of the rad where the housing mount is.

Best regards   Mick

Sorry Mick, this is really just the radiator and cap (top right side). Not even the thermostat is included.

No problem, it's just an ongoing idea I have to improve cooling efficiency

Hi Mick, stumbled across your post above. Any further forward with your idea?

I read somewhere about a bloke who fitted some computer extractor fans on his rad to help with the cooling. Not sure how and where on the rad he fitted them but looked as if the idea might have something going for it.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

Whilst the cooling system on the K 'might' be marginal as a design, the only time anyone should get overheating is when the rad is getting clogged and if the rad is getting clogged then no amount of extra forced air is going to do any good.

To eradicate the 'blind spot' behind the crud catcher, I drilled a gazillion holes in mine (the crud catcher, not the radiator) but it hasn't done any sensible miles since then and I never had a problem with the cooling beforehand which makes me wonder why I bothered  ::)
