Haynes Motor Museum
« on: June 20, 2018, 11:11:33 am »
Went to Devon last weekend and visited the Haynes Motor Museum on the way there. Free entry with my BMCT membership.

An excellent museum and well worth seeing. Worth going in just to visit the cafe.

I have been thinking of going there for a while now, I'll probably make a long weekend of it.
We could even turn it into a EuroKClub event if anyone is interested.  ;)

Send a £20 donation to BMCT and become a member. You will get free entrance to fourteen museums including Haynes, Brooklands, Sammy Miller, Beaulieu, Bovington and many more.

And 4 of those 5 are nice a trip round the south west:
Haynes, Sammy Miller, Beaulieu, Bovington

I could be tempted, Rae.

Well, apart from the first weekend in August when I have a Birthday do, I am free for the rest of August and the first couple of weeks in September. I could be persuaded to knock something together.  ;D 8)

Or I just happen to be in the area having the FJR serviced at the Club workshop (Cromhall) on the 25th July so could visit the museum on the 26th if that suits anyone.

I could ride over to Cromhall area on 26th July, Rae, and go down from there, if you don't mind a mid-morning start (it's about 1.5 hours for me across to Cromhall).

Or if there are more takers, do it more leasurely with an overnight stop, and hit one of the other establishments too - but that would have to out of term time for me, so Sept.

Not beyond the realms of possibility Rich, I am travelling down on the 24th staying in Cromhall overnight for the service on the 25th, which should take until about lunchtime. So it would mean another overnight stay somewhere nearby or nearer the museum.
What are your thoughts?

Ah, I thought you were staying overnight on 25th already.
I'd prefer not to stay overnight in that particular week (Sept is better for that), but two possibilities I can think of - only you'll know what's reasonable:

- overshoot your ride down on 24th and visit Haynes in the afternoon, and then back to your digs. I would join you somewhere on the way down (you're welcome to come here, of course), and follow on the way back up to your digs, and then home

- stay an extra day (but that costs you) and I can come over on 26th. If I actually pull my finger out I could be over to you for 10ish, and we might hit two places. The Tank Museum is only 1 hour south of Haynes, and Beaulieu is 2ish. But then you have to get back up north too...

I don't think I cam make this work Rich, it's a long way for me on the day, I could stay an extra night which might make it work. Melanie and I are off to either Europe or Scotland in September (16th - 23rd), we haven't made our minds up yet, I'm favouring Netherlands or Belgium or both.
Let me give it some thought.

No worries, Rae. Julia only breaks up a couple of days beforehand, hence July isn't ideal for overnights.

A random 3rd option, if you're coming past near me on 24th:
- the British Motor Museum at Gaydon is only 5 minutes ride from my house (its on the BCMT free entry list).

Not much of a ride for me, though. But I could take us to it via some 55 min scenic route. :P
