Moving from 45yo airhead to a K1300R

Hi everyone:

Subscribing to this forum was one of the first steps to move from a R90S from 1974 to a K1300R. I go the funds, all I need now is patience to test ride the K1300R and wait for the right one to come a long. I expect this to take a couple of months. Or worst case, I wait for the start of the Autumn to get cheaper prices and grab one ;-)

Anyway, on the market for a 10yo K1300R. I currently live in Oxford, UK.

It seems a shame to sell the R90, I sold my R 100S fifteen years ago and still regret it. Is it possible to keep two bikes?

So, sunny Portugal to sunny Oxford and R90 to 1300R.

Big changes in your life. I agree about keeping the R90, shame to get rid of it as they are a lovely bike for when you need to remind yourself that you can have a great ride without breaking the sound barrier.

Hello and welcome.

I hope the K1300R is as well as the R90S and not a replacement for it. I love my K1300S (it's my second, and I had a K1200S before that) but my K1300S would be sold before my R100CS went! Those 70's and early 80's BMWs were, i believe, the ultimate BMW motorcycles.

R90 should not be sold for another to enjoy.

As I've been instructed by Ms Mohair, you can only ride one at a time, so that's how many you need.*
You can always look at the old beast at numerous classic shows, and say loudly 'I used to have one of those'. Or you can get out riding a bit more often.

Hello and welcome , R is a lovely bike and a real joy for daylight rides around the city limits and a bit firther. Be sure to check really carefully bikes history, and ask for extended warranty.

I just got the K1300R! Tomorrow I will be getting it from the seller, really excited.

Thanks for all your concerns about the R90S. My plan is to keep both bikes for a couple of months, and then decide in what to do. I don't like to have more than one bike, so the plan is still to sell the R90S. I feel a bit broken hearted about this, but I noticed I have lost the joy in maintaining the bike...

Ah, spot on. That's why I eventually gave up Laverdas - after 28 years (with a small gap in the middle).
Fabulous bikes to ride but which became unmaintanable in the noughties unless you were an expert in the marque + a mechanic.
I could manage shimming the cams, and that was my limit. Any deeper than that, and it was off to an obscure bloke in the Cotswolds - and it was then out of action for a month or two.

Hence the BMW. Ultimately, riding is rather more interesting than fixing.

K1300R - 08 - ABS/traction control/ Quickshifter. Two brothers can, oberon slave clutch, centre stand (fitting that was a pain),  polish crash bars, Laminar lip wind deflector.

You know what they look like  ::) It's that ugly Kings Road posers bike. Almost as bad as a Harley. And just in case nobody notices some riders even fit noisy exhausts.
