K1300GT air filter?
« on: August 10, 2023, 03:22:55 pm »
Guess it’s true…the more you look the more you find.

Had to remove the air snorkel to get to the horn harness so the air filter was removed also.

It’s a Mahle LX 1892 dated 24/8/2011 so only 12 years old although it can’t be original as the bike was built a year previous and registered 9 months prior.

The bike was purchased brand new from NOG and has had every service carried out there including the last one at 21k miles in February a fortnight before I bought the bike.

Just rang them up but not in stock and £35.89 from Germany.

Guess that’s why they’ve never changed it then.. >:(

Looked at Nippy Normans for a replacement but didn’t see one listed outside of a service kit which is also out of stock.

Any idea where I might be able to get hold of one quickly as I’m wanting to put the bike back together in the next day or so?

Thanks & kind regards,

While the filter does look like it's not been changed in a while I don't think you can equate the date on the filter to when it was last changed. It may well have sat at the back of the shelf in NOG until last year.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Maybe not…I did think about that before I posted.

Thing is over the last 8 years or so it hasn’t been used that much and as you say it is quite dirty although difficult to say how long it might have took to accumulate that amount of rubbish;

2022-2023 500 miles
2021-2022 500 miles
2020-2021 500 miles
2019-2020 500 miles
2018-2019 1000 miles
2017-2018 1000 miles
2016-2017 1000 miles
2015-2016 1000 miles

Whichever way it was due to be replaced at 18,000 which was in 2017 according to the service book which is a very long time for a consumable to sit on the shelf and unlikely to have been fitted at that time IMHO.

Yeah sure...here you go;

https://amzn.eu/d/hkCdyGB

It's gone up a grand total of £0.50p since I placed my order but still much cheaper than buying from BMW even if they had any on stock!

Kind regards,

Well the air filter arrived today as promised pristine in its Mahle box and is indeed the genuine article.

New one on the left in case you were wondering  ;)

The old one really was dirty  ::)

Thanks for the link but....

Opie has it for less, if you use the UKGSER discount code (UKGSER) it works out at £17.65 delivered.

Is there a KCLub code too?

BTW you can check the condition of the airfilter by looking down the air intake snorkel with a torch.

That’s a handy tip…not that I’ll need it now of course.

Could it be the NOG torch has needed new batteries since 2012 or they just haven’t figured out how to turn it on yet?  ;)

These filters can be cleaned out by blowing through with an air line from the inside.
