My previous 09 K1300S I sold at 35,000 miles. It had a new radiator, new front suspension unit that replaced a leaker (still got the old leaker), new head bearings and cantilever bearings. An expensive bike to maintain.

Was maybe manufactured the monday after the beerfest  ;) Me too, I haven't been quite happy about the durability of mine, but then again, mine had double that mileage...
There are I0 kinds of people : those who can count in binary, and those who can't...

Bought 4 yeas ago with 32,000 miles now has 63,000.
Had a new radiator in my ownership.
Touch wood, it runs like clockwork and is a joy to ride.
Used all year round so far,
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

I thought you had a thread all about 'laying it up'. Was that just for a holiday?

Yes Brian, Six weeks in Australia that ended up with me coming home with a virus and nine weeks off the bike in total.

Ouch. Serves you right though for going against the laws of nature and standing on your head for so long...

As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

I'm almost at 29k now. Got it at _1,900 miles I think. As far as I can remember:

1. Swingarm and front 'forks' bit replaced due to corrosion ~ early on
2. Driveshaft failure peeing oil over the rear tyre ~ 6k miles
3. Driveshaft failure peeing oil over the rear tyre ~ 15k miles
4. Front suspension bit replaced (and then entire front end because they couldn't get the bush or something out) ~24k miles

Annoyingly I'm realising more and more that I don't trust it going round corners. Specifically regarding it peeing oil over the rear tyre and trying to kill me. BMW tried to assuage my concerns when they determined that it was some out-of-spec shim that caused both failures but... doesn't change me being paranoid now.

Funny that because I was always concerned that an over-oiled chain would pee itself all over the rear tyre and have me off... :(

I know! This bike has ruined the whole "yay shaft drive" thing for me, being more murdery than I've known any chain bike to be.

I know in my higher brain that if I bought another one then I'd probably be fine, and nobody else here has had this problem as far as I know (unless we're missing half a dozen potential members who are dead), but it's still at the back of my mind always.

And so we better hope I get a decent bonus and a new bike before the summer trip lest I be even slower in corners! :P

Harsh.

However, Matt, you know they've checked and understood the problem, so your K is probably safer than anyone elses now.
Trust in the K!

Maybe you should do an off-road course in the Welsh mud to learn how to control your rear end Matt...
