Had a nice potter around Scotland last week (not with EuroKClub, sorry).
It was my first time there on a motorbike, and the first time I've been north of Fort William.
We rode the west half of the NC500 (throwing in Appletree for good measure), and then came down the middle to Loch Ness, and back down through the Cheviots in the east, and home.

Thoroughly recommended.
As are waterproofs and midge repellent.

A few pics (click to enlarge):

View from Commando Memorial, Lochaber, towards Ben Nevis (hidden in cloud):

Waiting for the ferry to hop off from Skye:

It rotates! The last manually operated turntable ferry in the world:

Top of the Appletree Applecross loop. Note the low cloud:

Top left corner - Durness. Petrol for 9 bikes from a single automated pump takes about 25 minutes. We had a small jam building up by the last bike:  8)

Glenshee Ski Centre, Cairngorms - proper soggy, but a fabulous road even in the wet:

Nice ride report.

I'm off to Scotland again this year in a few weeks time. Hope the midges aren't too bad. I doubt we will be pottering.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

I forgot to say, I didn't know that 'A' roads came with passing places. That was a surprise.
Edges are optional too.

Great pics Rich. A lovely part of the world!

Many years ago, doing a similar run, the wife of a friend of mine asked me, as I was the lead, could we get onto slightly larger roads as the one we were on was single track with passing places. I got the map out and showed her, that was the ONLY road! :D

Doh - Applecross!

Appletree is much closer to home - hence the slip.

Ah looks great! I'm also beginning to plan a visit in September.  I may start a thread for crowdsourcing the sights and roads to visit, once I'm home!

I remember going on that ferry years ago, didn't the bikes all wobble off and float away? I didn't see any reassuring straps before...

A very stable little ferry. No straps, no rocking, and a 5 minute crossing.
It takes 6 cars. Or 9 bikes and a minibus when we crossed. But only 12 people max at a time (lifejacket count, I guess). So most of the minibus inhabitants had to wait for the next crossing. And nobody minded in the least. Sweet.

Whereas in nasty England there would have been at least a riot with a lynching and many protests from those who weren't even there  ::)

We did, and it was fabulous, even though it was raining. One of the quicker roads, since the surfaces were good, and very little traffic. And two lanes. Bonus!
I guess in summer it gets full, but not in the May rain.  8)

That top bit ...despite being fabulously scenic , gives me the heebie jeebies... :o steep on both sides and a little off camber. But bonny non the less.

Busy enough but never a hassle like with some other places.
