Title: Hello from the North East
Post by: simongt67 on September 23, 2021, 08:38:22 pm
Good evening from the North East

Was looking for a forum for these bikes that isn's US centric and stumbled across this.

Am a returning biker after a 12 year gap (748/916/T595/TL1000/955i), and after a domestic meltdown/seperation my brother-inlaw sold me his K1200R Sport at mates rates.  Bloody awesome thing, keeps up with the sportier stuff but with a more sedate riding position and tolerable seat/protection.

Can't post any pictures on social media as things aren't quite settled and i don't fancy handing over 62% of the only thing thats helped me keep sane over the past year whilst exporing the pennines, north yorks moors and yorkshire dales when i'm not able to see my kids.

07 plated silver K1200R Sport, carbon guard & hugger, helibar risers, akraprovic, power commander, belly pan/lower fairing, puig screen, CM Seats re-upholstered etc etc

Absolutely excellent work, i think there may have been some guilt as well though since he was my best man when i married his sister  ;D

I actually think the misses the K a little too much though, so i'm distracting him with links to a number of the black K1300S's currently on Autotrader.

Hi Simon. Welcome to the forum.

Tidy looking beast you have there. Glad to hear that it is helping to keep you sane in these troubled times.

Look after yourself.

Is that because of the reputation the TL1000S acquired as a "widow maker"?  ;)

(for everyone else: I am short on a massive bike)

No, I do go out on it but only in the dry, as I knew one day they would become a bit of a rarity, It has twice tried to remove me from the seat  ;D but I love the low down engine torque and engine braking, in its time it was a bike to be reckoned with, I also have other bikes that I use in bad weather.

Shame we do not live closer, would be fascinated to note the difference between your PC...which I couldn’t Get all those years ago and the Rexxer map and Akra headers in mine.

Oh and with a 1300 gearbox 3/4/5 are different ratio’s which give a slightly different feel.

Ah yes, the size issue .....

i always tell people that size isn't everything, also it may be a little more satisfying when its rough around the edges ....  :winkthumbs:

Ha, its more to do with the extra level of development & refinement BMW put into the 13 motor. Always loved the R-Sport but went for the 13s for reasons mentioned at the start.

Until the last 10 years of my work life I had conformed in the print trade for way too long, when redundancy loomed it was the chance to escape, and it’s the old ‘who not what you know’ and ended up working for MCN, always remember picking up a k1300 from Vines who in those days who ran the test fleet for the lazy buggers at UK, and was expecting great things when I rode it and frankly was very unimpressed, although in fairness mine isn’t just like the OP’s isn’t.

That is actually very interesting, thanks. Not sure where those dyno figures come from, must be measured at the crank.
