Ok then. After delving a little more on this subject, I decided to purchase this Drift ghost X helmet cam. Nice little thing, lightweight and only 8cm long and 4cm high approx. Came in a really strong package.
Mounted it to the side of my lid.
There are plenty of reviews on-line regarding this little camera, but here are a few of my musings...….good and not so good but all in all impressed.
Great quality video especially on the 1080p setting. I fitted a 128GB micro sd card so plenty of space for many hours of recordings.
Wi-fi compatible. You can download their app and pre set everything on your phone or laptop instead of using the very small rear screen.
Battery life has exceeded my expectations. So far, on one charge it lasted nearly six hours......….Drift claims 5 and a bit hours but you can purchase a larger battery that takes you to over eight hours.
It's not GPS so no positioning or speed indication recorded. Just date and time.
Good adjustment on field of view from 90 to 140 degrees. Over 300 degrees adjust of lens angle.
Ok then, the bad bits.
The built in external microphone is next to useless for us bikers...……….too much wind noise, so I've purchased a mic to fit inside my helmet for commentary. There are 5 settings for mic sensitivity and number 1 (least sensitive ) seems just right for me. Depends on your helmet design whether wind noise is a problem or not.
This camera is water resistant, NOT waterproof. If you are an all weather rider then the purchase of the Drift waterproof case is a must.
There are too many other settings that I'll never use like the photo mode, timelapse mode and photoburst mode.
All in all then, I'm well pleased with the purchase so far.
