North Oxford Garage, Rae. They've always been competent, I've not had any problems with them.
They couldn't get support from head office for my bubbling silver paint, but apart from that they seem to know what they're doing.

It's in for Monday. I've asked for anything but a 310 as a loaner. My moped days are over.

Hah that's always my parting line too! "... and don't even think about a 310!"

Whether I was paying the man or DiY'ing it, I think I would definitely go for the 4 in 1 approach.

Unless you are about to sell it, it's more about the buggeration factor of it going back onto 3 sometime when it isn't sitting conveniently on your drive.

NOG are about the most honest I have come across out of Bahnstormer, NOG and Vines. Cotswold have only fingered it once so ot is too early to tell.

Update:

The misfire disappeared as I rode to Oxford BMW for them to investigate.
It's about 35 miles via the scenic route. I get the first misfire within a mile, and then inconsistently for the next 15 or so. If I stay in 6th at about 40-50mph, no problems - so I do.
Then, having hit the A44 I need to up the speed a little otherwise I'm going to be the rolling traffic jam - most stuff is doing 60 mph. Hmm, no misfire.
Well, I'll just keep it steady, no overtakes, and enter Oxford the 'back' way, to avoid any stop/start traffic. I gert just one more random & gentle misfire at about 30 miles, and then nothing.

BMW gave it two rides out, leaving it to cool in-between - no problems found.
I collect it & ride home - absolutely no misfires at all. Thrashed it, chugged it, played with gears, slung it left & right - nothing.

Which is great news!
But just slightly niggling.

Duff petrol? Gunk in injectors/sysmtem from being sat for 4 months? Temperature? (it was 4-8C on the way in, 14C or so on the home run)
But the history was:
- 1st run no problems in late March. Filled up in busy garage = fresh petrol source
- 2nd run with just two misfires, which surprised me - subtle ones
- 3rd run with a whole host of evil misfiring, but it only started after a long run (60 miles). Tank refilled with fresh petrol halfway through ride and rode another 30 miles home - still missing.
- ring Oxford & booked it in
- 4th run to Oxford today with misfires for first half
- 5th run back no misfires

The misfires appeared and disappeared, and not really in sync with the petrol changes.

I'll give it another spin tomorrow, just to double-check.

Still sits in injector territory then. They don't turn up on OBD until they actually dead. I had 2 or so trips to BMW with the same result as I recall.
Oh but wait mine wasn't injectors! But still, the above is true.

As I think gifs are immoral I'd like everyone to just imagine the Fawlty Towers scene where Basil is beating his car with the tree branch.

I would have happily beaten two particular Laverdas with a branch - one into a mush, the other just with mild beration.
When they worked, they were fab - it was the lengthening gap between 'working' that got me. Hence a nice steady keeps-running BMW.

I am erring on the side of the fuel molecules having got themselves stuck in a horizontal orientation  due to gravity and idleness rather than being randomly arranged in the tank and then not being able to fit through the injector orifice. Although that is almost horizontal too  ::)

However, recalcitrant coils and intermittent misfiring can come and go for ages if it is a coil/s playing up. Keep an eye on it...

You're going with an entropy decreasing approach, I like it! :D

Latest update: two rides taken today:
- 1st ride for 2+ hours. Threequarters through the ride I had two misfires within about 15 seconds of each other. Nothing else. Weird.
- 2nd ride for about 80 minutes. No misfires.

Having not ridden much this year I'm now quite tired. Like that's a bad thing? ;D

I'll give it another go in a few days.

As per my earlier post......I'm certain that it's the coils, and not a fuel issue, that's causing the intermittent/random misfire.

You may well be correct, John. I'm going to have to go out a few more times, I guess.

What can I expect - for it to slowly degrade, or die a sudden death?
And does anything else affect coils - air moisture, cold, etc?

[Edit: 'air moisture' my arse. Humidity! It was late.]
