Hi Nick and welcome to the madhouse that is EuroKClub 😎

With Costas's recent post about his similar mileage bike which also drinks oil, I think I would be a little concerned about my internals 😳

Then again, some use it and some don't.

I would expect broken piston rings to show up on the plugs. I'm not sure if the cat would burn off the oil before it showed as blue smoke from the exhaust. Perhaps Costas can let us know.

From Costas, a while back:

> BMW motorrad responded in four deferent emails that consumption up to one liter per 1000 kms is considered within acceptable limits.

Welcome Nick.

My last k1300s used no oil. This one uses oil. Though it also has twice given a lot of oil to the road and my rear tyre :).

But then I bought just 2L of oil at BMW for the bike, and I bought 5L for the car! (rocker gasket e46 yay)

Maybe that's my inside brain saying I expect to have the car longer than the bike... or that i'm too lazy to fix the gasket.

Anyway yes welcome!

Hi Nick, I'm just down the road from you in Crewe.

My 1300S has 46k on the clock & needs no top-up between services.

As Brian says, some do some don't.

Hi Nick.
Certain engines do burn a little oil as the age, my daughters 115,000 Yaris T-sport can sup up to a litre per 10,000 miles but there is no black smoke and the emissions show the Cat. is still working fine.
one litre per 1000km, that's about 5 fill ups of the thimble fuel tank does seem excessive to be classed as acceptable though

Hello and welcome.

I'm not sure what your definition of a "insatiable appetite for oil" is. My 2013 K1300S barely used any oil and I don't think I ever had to top it up.

My 2016 K1300S uses between one and 1.5 litres between each 6000 miles service. I understand this is considered average consumption.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

If 1 - 1.5 litres is considered 'average', gawd only knows what the high end of the spectrum is.

My 2004 K12S used none between services, at least none that could be seen on the sight tube.

My K13S has done so few miles that it is too early to tell.

I wonder if your bike's consumption is due to newness and not having bedded in. Wouldn't have thought so with your mileage though.

We need a poll....

My bike has just had it's 36,000 mile service so I would expect it to be bedded in. :)

The "average" comment was from the Lind Service Desk when I asked about the oil consumption.
