New to me
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:13:06 pm »
Ooooooo! Nice! Spec?

What?
A Motorsport multi-coloured wonder. 2015, 7k miles.

Why?
- I like K1300S's enough to commit to another 5-10 years, but with my current bike being 7 years old and 36k miles, at some point I'll get some hassle
- Low mileage ones will get a bit rare in another few years. Right now, there are still a few to choose from.
- I fancied trying the all-signing all-dancing 5lbs saving of carbon / forged BS.  And those uncomfy shin-skinning rearsets. I'm sure it will make absolutely no difference ;D
- I'm not getting any younger.
- And I heard a voice say 'Just bloody buy it'. Bless her mohair socks.

How much?
Less than a BMW garage would charge.

What's lacking?
- pannier fittings
- Ilmberger hugger
- centre stand
- fender extender
- rear fender extender (the £22 one)

Got decide what to take off the existing bike, and what to leave.

Yikes!

So you are joining the throng who bought from a non-franchised dealer?

Well, assuming you are trading your old one, then the Sport Cases and the frame come off in a couple of jiffy's and you have to take off the case frame to get the rear mudguard off although for £22 that's not a reason to do it by itself.

On the other hand, if you didn't trade it (and why would a non-BM place [or even a BMW dealer] want another one) and are selling it privately then IMHO it will sell quicker and for more money if you leave them on and buy new from the Chermans.

Costs more but shifts faster and you get new stuff.

Take as much off the old bike as you can. Dont make any difference if trading it in.
I have a lovely 2016 reg Motorsport and absolutely love it. Never noticed rearsets until jumped on the bike and tbh do not have any issue with it. Centre stand may be worth having but just use rear stand in garage.
Just buy it  :o ;D

I'm not trading in, so I'll have a think about the bits.

I'll stick it on here before eBay/Biketrader/MCN in case anyone fancies it.

Pics when I actually own it, Brian - a week or so.
[Spoiler: it looks just like any other Motorsport!]

Thanks! The last one was very well behaved. Nearly zero problems.

It comes with the balance of a BMW warranty too, and its young, so it should be good for a few years  8)

Just one piccie - it's not like you've never seen one before, eh.

Lunchtime at Ashbourne, on way home from dealer:

And my immediate feedback on the differences between this (2015 Motorsport 7k miles) and my existing beastie (2011 std model 36k miles):
- new one has more vibes on deceleration, but I seem to remember that was true on the 2011 bike when it was younger. Maybe they smooth out when they're a bit longer in the tooth
- new suspension is firmer/tighter, but not by much
- new Akra exhaust is noisy. In two minds on this. It sounds a bit busy. On the other hand, overtakes are quite invigorating. Hmmm.
- new posh pegs feel higher than standard, even though they're on lowest setting. I'll measure them later.
- new seat is less comfy (surely they're all the same?!). Will test by swapping them another day.
- new rear topbox platform is just wrong. Pannier rails are much more subtle. It may be coming off.
- new one has a Garmin mount thingy on a ball joint, ready to impale me. Heresy. Make me an offer, it could be yours.
- power feels identical. Plenty, in other words  8)
- white paint + flies. What was I thinking! Nice finish though. Thanks goodness the bottom is black. I may need to clean this one a bit more often  :o

Will be getting centre stand and pannier rails fitted in a couple of weeks.
So, few bits to add, and possibly a few bits to remove.

There's a tube inside the silencer with a small bolt underneath it. This is normally tack welded in place. If the baffle is out there will be a bigger hole in the end and the small hole where the bolt went will be open and visible.

If it wasn't handed to you on collection, then surely it's fitted? It's also very much more LOUDER when removed!

Looks similar to this.

Ah, I see the bolt. It's got the baffle in.
Just rode them back to back, and peg position is identical. I think it's the knurled footpegs that are the difference.
