I hate the stuff, but you lot will enjoy reading this. Probably:

But is it art?

The Euro K Club Lounge / North West 200
« on: May 18, 2018, 09:45:55 pm »
If you like road racing, here are Thursday's evening races from the North West 200:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p02qsbvf?suggid=p02qsbvf

To save you searching, the races start at:
Supersport 600     0h 13m
Superstock 1000   1h 55m
Supertwins 600     2h 50m

They'll be more at the same link on Sunday, since they're posted one day behind (they don't race Friday).
It might be live on Saturday too (red button?), but I couldn't find it.

Praise or Shame / Leather repairs
« on: May 17, 2018, 01:34:44 pm »
Not a personal recommendation, but the Halvarssons sales chappy said this is who they use for repairs, so they must be reasonable good:

Any recommendations before I stick my red K1300S up for sale?

I will pop it on here beforehand, probably later this week, in case anyone is keen.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Ilmberger rear hugger - fitting instructions?
« on: May 11, 2018, 09:32:45 pm »
Possibly my last bike-swap-related question (phew they all mutter):
- are there any tricks to removing/fitting an Imberger rear hugger?

I guess it's:
- caliper off
- exhaust off
- wheel off

And then it's take the hugger off old bike, and do the reverse onto the new bike.

Locktite needed, torque values, etc?

Thanks in advance...

The Euro K Club Lounge / Pannier keys - matching to bike key
« on: May 10, 2018, 05:06:42 pm »
I know, I know, so many questions. Sorry.

I have panniers keyed to my old bike, and I'd like to change them to the new bike.
I may do it myself - I can see a couple of example step-throughs on the web (but I remember Matt had a few hiccups doing his), or I can take it to a dealer.

However, the bit I don't understand:
- I have a black plastic key from the previous owner which also unlocks the panniers, even though the key is a different pattern. Hmm!

Anyone got an explanation?

Maybe I could just be lazy / cheapskate and get a couple of metal copies of the plastic one cut.

I didn't know this - but me and my thinner wallet do now!

1.
There are two types of BMW Motorrad warranty:
- BMW manufacturer's warranty (I believe this is the first 2 years from new)
- BMW 'used bike' warranty (the rest of the bike's life - what you are offered by the BMW dealer on used bikes, and what you can take out as an owner)

And of course there are 3 ways of buying your bike
- from a BMW dealer
- from a non-BMW dealer
- private sale

Combine those babies together, and there's a small but irritating gap in the 'used bike' warranty logic:
- if you buy from BMW they'll give you a 'used bike' warranty inclusive of price - 12 or 24 months
- if you buy privately, the 'used bike' warranty can be transferred over by the previous owner
- if you buy from a non-BMW dealer, the BMW 'used bike' warranty expires

2.
If you buy the warranty from BMW, the warranty doesn't kick in until 1 month after the warranty is taken out.
I waited 6 days after purchasing the bike before I worked out I wasn't covered, so when the non-BMW dealer's 30 day warranty expires, I have a 6 day gap before the newly purchased BMW one kicks in.

Those 6 days exactly match the Wrinklies run, so I'll be riding with no warranty. But nothing's going to go wrong. That all happened last year.  ;D ;D ;D

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Akrapovic noise reduction baffle
« on: May 08, 2018, 04:32:41 pm »
I'm after the screw-in noise reduction baffle that comes as standard with Akrapovic exhausts - the one that folks remove to increase the noise.
I want to put it back in, but my exhaust (secondhand) came without it.

They seem to be £50 new, but secondhand is fine for me.

Thanks in advance...

For Sale / Wanted / For sale - RAM ball mounting kit
« on: May 08, 2018, 01:17:00 pm »
Screws straight into the top yoke, once you remove the BMW badge cover. Used, of course.

Three bits to it:
- ball
- double socket clamp
- mounting plate

Seems to be around £40-50 new, so let's say 50% = £25, plus P&P which is probably around £3-5.
Bargain ;)

The Euro K Club Lounge / Grip Puppies

Just had the pleasure of splitting & peeling a pair off. Very satisfying.
Left them on for first two rides, hated them. They also render the heated grips near-useless.

When quoting someone else's post and having previewed your pithy reply, you'll occasionally get this seemingly meaningless error:

The following error(s) occurred while posting this message:

The problem is that some smileys/emojis upset to the quotes - I don't know why.
Simply delete the smiley/emoji from the quoted post, and hey presto, it will work.

Just thought I'd let you know...

K1200 / K1300 Forum / New to me
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:13:06 pm »
Ooooooo! Nice! Spec?

What?
A Motorsport multi-coloured wonder. 2015, 7k miles.

Why?
- I like K1300S's enough to commit to another 5-10 years, but with my current bike being 7 years old and 36k miles, at some point I'll get some hassle
- Low mileage ones will get a bit rare in another few years. Right now, there are still a few to choose from.
- I fancied trying the all-signing all-dancing 5lbs saving of carbon / forged BS.  And those uncomfy shin-skinning rearsets. I'm sure it will make absolutely no difference ;D
- I'm not getting any younger.
- And I heard a voice say 'Just bloody buy it'. Bless her mohair socks.

How much?
Less than a BMW garage would charge.

What's lacking?
- pannier fittings
- Ilmberger hugger
- centre stand
- fender extender
- rear fender extender (the £22 one)

Got decide what to take off the existing bike, and what to leave.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Heated grips stuck on & binding discs
« on: March 25, 2018, 06:12:13 pm »
I'm guessing the heated grips switch is a standard warranty issue - i.e. dodgy switchgear - but have others had similar problems?

Also one front disc and the rear disc are binding slightly, i.e. slow the bike down initially and hot to the touch, but they seem to loosen up after a few miles.
Safe to ride 30-ish miles to the dealer?

Just nice to know the situation on both before I ring and book it in.

Cheers...
