Tail Bag Givi Adapter
« on: June 03, 2017, 11:33:56 am »
As some of you may know I recently bought a really good value and nifty little tail bag from Sportsbikeshop.
The only bugbear was attaching and hiding the straps, so I wanted a solution to attach it to the Givi rack without the straps. This is what I came up with.

The yellow dot you can see is the hole I drilled where the knock through is for the Givi electrics with the nuberplate making it look yellow

I made a hardboard template

From that hardboard template I created an Acetate plate to accept the bag base.

Here are the components

After a bit of drilling and counterboring

The knob fits discretely under the rack. I made a spacer so that I could use a longer bolt so the knob didn’t go too far into the rack and make it awkward to do up.

Bag base bolted to the Acetate base.

A couple of pictures of the finished job.

Looks good Rae.

As you know Rae I was impressed with your recent tail bag purchase after seeing it in the flesh, a quality bag and cheap as well. Unfortunately Sports-bike shop no longer stock the item but found one on the net in Germany 31 euro's. Bag arrived yesterday 3 days delivery and very chuffed with it. :) 8)

Good find Mike, post up a link in case anyone else wants one.

Edit: Found it at Fc Moto

Melanie and I stopped off at FC Moto when we made a slight detour when we were travelling from Vervier to Einhoven last year.

Mike, don't forget to post up some photos when you get the tail bag on the bike, apparently there are not enough photos of FJRs on the site.  :D

Its a shame a 7 - 10 litre lockable top box isn't available for more security when left on the bike.
I looked all over with no luck. Zip up bags was all that was available and they are easily got into, ask any airport baggage handler.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

Don't be overly obsessed with security Ron, Don't leave valuables in the bag and obviously don't leave it on overnight other than that I have never had anyone even look sideways.
