Hot start problems are as named - a first start from cold is never a problem.
Symptoms are inability to turn the motor over at all when warm (petrol station stop, fag break, etc).
For my bike, its not sluggish - chug chug chug chug chug - it just won't turn over, or it will turn over once / twice at most, and then clunk.
My fix (for the 3 or 4 times I've had it) is power off completely, count to 10 (that bit is for luck, capacitors to drain, short prayer, etc) power on, retry. That's never failed me. What has led to scary times is just trying again and again without switching the bike off, and grinding the battery down.
The powering off may just be my bike - other bikes may act differently - but it works for me.
So, in summary, if it's struggling from a cold start, it probably isn't the hot start issue.
Last bit: I believe the hot start fix is covered by warranty, if you can convince the dealer it's an issue. Since I have always got mine started, I haven't pushed for it.
