Who's Who? / Moving on
« on: September 19, 2019, 02:26:06 pm »
Hello all.

Just a wee note to say that I'm trading in the K1300s on Sunday and riding home on a nearly new Yamaha Tracer 900GT. I've enjoyed my time on the big K and it's been great to own a hyper-bike, but the time has come to move back to a smaller sports-tourer and the GT seems to fit the bill nicely. I've never owned a Yamaha or a triple so another couple of boxes ticked there. This one has had lots of nice Yamaha goodies bolted on so that wee bit more special than a stock bike... First reg March 2019 with just under 3k on the clock with one owner.

The big bike has been really reliable and I will be sad to see it go but I can't keep them all. Thanks again for the advice and the banter and I'll still drop by every now and then to have a lurk.  :)

Thanks again TurboBevy.

John.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / New tyre joy
« on: June 08, 2018, 08:35:15 pm »
MOT was booked for today so a good time to have the pair of Michelin Road 5s I've been sitting on fitted just ahead of the MOT. Standard Metzler Sportec M3s were pretty shagged, well the rear certainly was, front still had some life left, but the bike had lost the lovely roll into corners and more recently had to be urged around them. Cupar motos charged me £25 per wheel ride-in, which seems the norm these days and the hassle free option. I'd already saved a few quid buying the tyres direct as a pair from Demon Tweeks.

MOT passed with an advisory about the front pads - must order them later and my ticket to ride is issued for another year. Shops warning about scrubbing in new tyres ringing in my ears and a real nice 30 odd mile ride home in the sunshine with the contryside in full HD.

New tyre joy is back, the bike just rolls into bends and fires out the other side.  8)

Hello all.

Will soon be a year since the K came into my possesion/life so I'm facing the first service in my ownership/care. I'd quite happliy service it myself (the 'dangers' of home servicing! As a Kawasaki dealer once said to me when muted) as I have done for previous bikes and the fact that all it'll need is an oil change and maybe new rear brake pads? I phoned the franchised main dealer last week and asked that, Andy, the man I bought it from phone me back. He did, I missed his call and despite trying him again two or three times he's not as yet got back to me. I'm in the cream puff now as I thought he really liked me...  :'(  Being Scottish, careful with my earnings, Im thinking I should just book it into my local friendly independent motorcycle shop who I've used for years for the bigger stuff/jobs and ask them to use BMW parts and top quality Castrol oil and save a few quid on labour rates and also help keep an independent enthusiast motorcycle shop in business. Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Can anyone pick fault with that? The bike has an extended 24month warranty as supplied by the dealer but it's running sweet as a nut and nothing has fallen off, broken or gone faulty. Mileage is now just under 16k and it's a 63 reg. Reg.  ;)

Brake fluid was changed at last service before collection in May 2017 and the brakes are astoundingly good! I can never make up my mind which is best? The motor or the brakes?  8)

P.S. I've also bought, have a pair of Michelin PR5s in stock which will also be fitted (new tyre joy!) and the MOT is due in May also and the tax and the insurance. Ballache. I think I need a second job or a - sugar mummy - or both.....  ???

Thanks for listening/reading.
Cheers.

First upgrade? completed today. Footery job, but quite pleased with the end result as it works! Photos which I hope work for you?

Low beam

Low & main beam (me up Scotty!)

Driver wiring

Driver wiring 2

Driver box is secured to O/S main beam via industrial 3M velcro which wasn't included, neither was the rubber grommet, luckily I had both in stock.

Cheers, John.

Who's Who? / Hullo there
« on: January 12, 2018, 05:11:08 pm »
Been lurking for a bit, as you do, so I could get the feel of the place. Seems a good active forum and plenty knowledge being shared along with a decent amount of humour and banter. So thought I'd tak the plunge and join yeh!

I'm John, I'm nearing 50, been riding legally since passing my test in 2005 on a Chinese 125, lol. Bike history since then is as follows.

Suzuki Freewind XF650, gone John. 2001 Honda VFR800 Fi-1, which I still own as you just can't part with 'em once you've been smitten. V-4s R Speshul! My next bike was the first & only new bike I've ever bought, a 2012 Kawasaki KLZ1000 (Versys). I owned and even tuned the Kwak until I began lusting after a K1600 of all things - help ma Boab.

Wee trip to Dundee where I clapped eyes on ma current ride - 2013 K1300s 30th Anniversary. Did the deal there and then without even taking a test-ride. #Braveman.

That was May last year and I'm still happy with the deal done with Clarks and the bike. Not done any mods yet but keeping that under review for this year. Loving the engine! leccy suspenders, brakes, 'andling & quickshifter! I didn't really 'need' a hyperbike? But owning one is a lot of fun.

Regards. TurboBevy, John.
